Clubs & Organizations

Student Engagement

KVCC students can find a breadth of student engagement opportunities on the KVCC campus that are both in person and virtual in nature.  Those opportunities could include, but are not limited to student clubs, student employment, services, community service, and student engagement events.  We encourage our students to become involved, try something new, step outside their comfort zone, and embrace these opportunities as it will provide further growth and development beyond the classroom experience.  Students can find more information about student engagement events by perusing the KVCC Events page or in looking at the events tile in the KVCC App.  The Office of Student Life encourages students who are seeking to find leadership opportunities or experience, volunteer or community service hours, or who are looking to feel more connected to campus, please reach out to the Director of Student Life, Jannie Durr (studentlife@kvcc.me.edu).

KVCC APP

KVCC Students can easily download the KVCC APP directly to their mobile devices to engage with their peers and the larger KVCC community, find resources, make social connections, or quickly get their questions answered.  Simply scan the QR code or search using Kennebec Valley Community College in your APP store.

Student Senate

Student Senate

Student Senate provides a forum for students who want to voice their opinions, questions, assists student clubs in being more successful, or addresses concerns about aspects of student life at Kennebec Valley Community College. Student Senate has officer positions including President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers work with the student body and other senate members to promote student-centered activities, clubs, and organizations. Senate holds regular officer and general student body meetings throughout the course of the semester. Student Senate also brings student concerns and questions about policies, procedures, and services at KVCC to the executive team of the College.

If you are interested in getting involved with Student Senate and making a difference for students, the easiest way is to log into the KV App and go to the Clubs and Groups tile. Once there, select the KVCC Student Senate group and click “Become Member,” it’s that easy!

Student Senate welcomes student input about their experience.  We would like to hear your ideas.  You can join us at our town-hall style meetings every other week.  Also, you can leave your comments in this form.  Please know that none of the fields are required, so you do not need to provide your name unless you want to do so.

If you do not have the App, you can send an email to the Director of Student Life, Jannie Durr at studentlife@kvcc.me.edu, and let us know you are ready to be a part of the team!

Student Clubs

Student Clubs

Student clubs vary each year dependent upon student interest.  These clubs can be either college program-affiliated clubs (Nursing Club, Physical Therapy Assistant Club, Respiratory Therapy Club, or Culinary Club) or can be social/affinity/interest clubs (3D Print Club, Veteran’s Club, PRIDE Alliance, D&D Club, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship).  You can see a list, including description and contact information for existing clubs by using the KV App and going to the Clubs and Groups tile.

If you do not see a club that you wish the college had, you are more than welcome to start one yourself!  New club requests are reviewed by the Office of Student Life and Student Senate.  To request the creation of a new club, complete the request/renewal form here or in the KVCC App.

Service & Service-Learning

Service & Service-Learning

Many KVCC students seek opportunities to engage in service to their fellow KVCC students and local community.  Several service-based options exist on campus including the KV Food Pantry, regular Blood Drives, the Thanksgiving basket program, and the Season of Giving event.  Students are also encouraged to intertwine their classroom learning and desire to provide service, by engaging in service learning.  For more information about service-learning, please connect with our Center for Civic Engagement.

KVCC Votes

KVCC Votes

KVCC Votes is a nonpartisan student-led group who is dedicated to providing nonpartisan voting information, helping KVCC students through the process of registering to vote, and developing their voting plans on or before election day.  This engagement includes, among other things, participation in local, statewide, and national elections.  Toward this end, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to become registered voters and to exercise their right to vote.  For more election engagement information or to join KVCC Votes, please email vote@kvcc.me.edu or find KVCC Votes on the KV App.  We encourage the entire KVCC community to participate in the voting process, national voter registration day in September, voter education week in October, and by voting in November.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Phi Theta Kappa is recognized as the official honor society for community colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges.  Its purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.  Membership is based on superior academic achievement and is conferred only by invitation of your local chapter.

The reasons for joining Phi Theta Kappa are many.  Our Chapter is very active both on campus and in the greater KVCC community.  Each year, through service projects and the Honors in Action program, members have the opportunity to engage in the Four Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa; Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.   Additionally, members have access to scholarships and transfer services that are not available to non-members.  At graduation, many members choose to celebrate their academic achievements by wearing the Phi Theta Kappa stole and cords.

Kennebec Valley Community College students who meet the following criteria are invited to join the Beta Delta Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.  Invitations are issued twice each year to students who:

  • Are in an Associate’s degree program
  • Have completed 12 or more credits at KVCC
  • Have attained a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.50 or higher
