Special Circumstances Scholarship Application

 

Scholarship Funding for Students with Financial Aid Cancelled due to Unmet Terms of Academic Plan

If funding is available, a matriculated student may apply to receive a scholarship if there are ineligible for other forms of student financial aid due to unmet terms of an academic plan. Approval is made on a case-by-case-basis and my not be possible due to lack of available funds, lack of student unmet need, and other academic and/or financial factors.

To qualify, the student applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Matriculated in a KVCC program of study
  • Maine resident, eligible for in-state tuition
  • Demonstrated unmet financial need (FAFSA methodology)
  • Only enrolled in courses required for the KVCC program of study
  • Achieved a 1.9 minimum cumulative GPA

Awards will be made available for only one semester and will be based on the following:

  • Up to $75 per credit hour enrolled
  • Up to $750 per semester
  • Actual scholarship awards will be based on a student’s final course enrollment after the semester add/drop period. If a recipient drops a course their scholarship will be reduced. Adding a course does not guarantee a scholarship increase
  • Once a student is determined to be eligible for Title IV financial aid, they will no longer be funded through this scholarship opportunity

Additional information for the student applicant:

    • The student must follow the academic plan terms and appeal process to be considered for future student financial aid eligibility.
    • The student may apply for emergent need financial assistance, if available, such as federal covid emergency relief grants and/or the KVCC Foundation Emergent Need Scholarship. Related application and processing procedures and necessary documentation for such funds will be followed; emergent need funding is not guaranteed.

 

Scholarship Funding for Students in Student Loan Default Status

If funding is available, a matriculated student may apply to receive a scholarship if there are ineligible for other forms of student financial aid due to a defaulted student loan. Approval is made on a case-by-case-basis and my not be possible due to lack of available funds, lack of student unmet need, and other academic and/or financial factors.

To qualify, the student applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Matriculated in a KVCC program of study
  • Maine resident, eligible for in-state tuition
  • Demonstrated unmet financial need (FAFSA methodology)
  • Only enrolled in courses required for the KVCC program of study
  • Achieved a 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA

Awards will be made in one semester increments for up to three consecutive semesters and will be based on the following:

  • Must create an official student loan repayment and Title IV reinstatement plan
  • Must make the initial payment, according to the terms of the student’s defaulted loan repayment plan before the scholarship may be disbursed
  • Must continue to make monthly payments on time, according to the repayment terms, a lump sum prepayment of future installments does not satisfy the requirement, unless the loan is paid-off in full
  • Must make payments voluntarily, not through garnished wages or withheld taxes
  • Must keep paying on time, according to the terms of the repayment plan
  • If a payment is late, missed, or does not meet the terms of the repayment plan, the student will not receive scholarship funding in a future semester
  • Once a student is determined to be eligible for Title IV financial aid, they will no longer be funded through this scholarship opportunity

Awards will be made in one semester increments for up to three consecutive semesters as follows:

  • Up to $100 per credit hour enrolled
  • Up to $1,200 per semester (up to $1,000 during the summer semester)
  • Actual scholarship awards will be based on a student’s final course enrollment after the semester add/drop period. If a recipient drops a course their scholarship will be reduced. Adding a course does not guarantee a scholarship increase

Additional information for the student applicant:

  • The student must submit documentation of loan repayment terms and payment status to the KVCC Office of Student Financial Aid before a scholarship will be applied to each semester’s financial aid package
  • The student must meet the loan repayment terms and financial aid and satisfactory academic progress terms to continue scholarship eligibility in subsequent semesters.
  • The student must meet the loan repayment terms and financial aid and satisfactory academic progress terms to qualify for future sources of financial aid
  • The student may apply for emergent need financial assistance, if available, such as federal covid emergency relief grants and/or the KVCC Foundation Emergent Need Scholarship.
