In 2012, Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to provide solar photovoltaic (PV) training to instructors across the Northeast United States.  The primary goal of this project is to help facilitate and support the creation of a well-trained and highly qualified solar energy workforce to meet the projected needs of the solar industry.

In 2013, KVCC began offering a two-year (2013-14) training program for faculty throughout the  seven state region of New England and New York.  As the Northeast Provider of Solar Instructor Training, KVCC has established relationships with career and technical high schools, community colleges, baccalaureate institutions, trade apprenticeship and union training programs that have existing training programs in: electrical technology, construction management or building technology, and engineering.
