Facilitating the transfer of students between Maine institutions of higher education since 1996...
Our HistoryThe Maine Transfer Association (META) is a group of educators who either have direct responsibility for, or interest in, the evaluation of prior learning for transfer credit at postsecondary institutions. The group was formed during the 1996 New England Transfer Association (NETA) spring conference. At that time, seven Maine professionals gathered to discuss common concerns about transfer issues among Maine colleges and universities. In June 1996, representatives from nine Maine colleges and universities met at Kennebec Valley Technical College to further discuss pertinent issues surrounding transfer, and to gauge the need for a formal organization to deal with transfer issues in Maine. In a span of 18 months, the group grew to 21 participating members representing educational and student support organizations throughout Maine. In May 1998, the group drafted, revised, and adopted a set of bylaws, which defined the mission of the group.
Our Mission"To facilitate the transfer process, including maximizing the awarding of credit for prior learning, for students attending Maine institutions of higher education by networking, educating the public, providing recommendations to the academic community and providing professional development for its members." The Mission shall be supported by the following goals:
