Transfer 101

 

Associate in Arts / Liberal Studies students who plan to graduate from KVCC should consider the Advanatge U program.

Before You Apply

  • Find colleges that have the major you want by talking with the Transfer Counselor or using Choices software
  • Schedule a visit to the campus(es) of your choice – it can help you decide
  • Talk with the Transfer Counselor about which courses will transfer to a particular school

The Application

  • On-line or Paper – Ask the Transfer Counselor about what might work best for you
  • Complete All Sections
  • Have someone else proofread your essay (It has to be perfect!)
  • Request letters of recommendation if required to do so
  • Sign a Release of Information so counselor can talk to college about your application’s status

The Transcripts

  • Request your high school transcript
  • Request your Kennebec Valley and any other college transcript
  • Transcripts must be sent directly from one institution to another, you cannot mail or deliver them

Financial Aid

  • Fill out your FAFSA as soon as possible (some kinds of financial aid are first come-first served)
  • List all schools that you are interested in on the FAFSA
  • Pay your confirmation deposit as soon as possible so that the FA office can make you an offer

After You Are Accepted

  • Celebrate Wildly!
  • Meet with your advisor at your new school as soon as possible to schedule classes
  • Have a Final Transcript (with all your Kennebec Valley grades on it) sent to your new school
