Biological Sciences Program

~ Associate in Science Degree ~ 

DESCRIPTION

   The Associate in Science in Biological Sciences program provides students with a current knowledge base in life sciences in addition to the skills relevant to a variety of employment opportunities. National biotechnology skill standards are incorporated into the coursework and a student must demonstrate competency with each skill prior to graduation. Graduates will have acquired practical knowledge and skills as credentials for employment or continuing education in related fields.
 

PROGRAM MISSION

  

   The mission of the Associate in Science degree in Biological Sciences is to provide students with a strong foundation in biological sciences and laboratory skills, thereby allowing the student the opportunity to transfer to a four-year college or university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, transfer to another community college program, or earn better entrance into the bioscience industry.
 

EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES
 

   Upon successful completion of the Biological Sciences program, the graduate is expected to:

  1. Be competent to carry out all responsibilities associated with laboratory work.
  2. Demonstrate competency with each biotechnology skill standard.
  3. Be capable of critical thinking and problem solving within his/her area of expertise.

CRITERIA FOR GRADUATION

   Students must complete 60-61 credits in the Biological Sciences program and achieve a minimum grade of "C" in all core courses (*). Students must attain a final GPA of 2.0 or higher.
