WebCT for KVCC Students

Before you Can Log in to WebCT (Online Students Only) Go to the following URL on the Internet: https://mail.kvcc.me.edu/iisadmpwd/ You will see the following screen
Click OK when you have entered all of the information. It should say password changed successfully. If not, try again by clicking the back button. If successful, continue on and log in to WebCT. 1. Go to KVCC’s homepage:
http://www.kvcc.me.edu
4. Click the Log in to link.
5. Type the first letter of your first name and your complete last name for your WebCT ID. (use all lower case)
6. Type the password you use when you log in to your e-mail. (use all lower case)
8. Your courses will be listed on the left hand side. Click the name of the course to enter it.
We do not use the forward and back buttons on the Standard Toolbar to navigate in WebCT. Under the menu bar and course name you will see the word "Homepage" on your home page. This means that you are currently on the homepage. When you go to another page another page's name will appear. This way you will always know which page you are on and how you got there. We call these individual "pages" breadcrumbs. You follow the breadcrumbs to get back to the home page. See the example below.
You can see from the screenshot above the student started out on the "Home page", went on to "Communication Tools", and is now currently on the "Private Mail." To get back to the "Homepage" you can either click on each of the breadcrumbs until you arrive at your course "Homepage", or you can click directly on the "Homepage" link. Getting familiar with the Menu Bar Menu Bar Items
The Menu Bar includes the following features: myWebCT - details are above Resume Course provides a quick method for you to resume studying content pages where you left off. When you leave your course after studying your content pages, you can return to the last content page read by choosing by choosing Resume Course from the Menu Bar. When you are finished reading all the course content, Resume Course becomes deactivated. Course Map allows you to view the structure of the entire course on one page. The course elements are hyperlinks, enabling you to go to any place in the course from a single page. This tool simplifies navigation and is especially useful for courses with a large number of elements. Check Browser WebCT Campus automatically check whether your browser is validated for use with WebCT. A validated browser is one that is compatible with WebCT. A non-validated browser is one that is not fully tested or has known minor issues with WebCT. A nonvalidated browser is one that is incompatible with WebCT. Log Out is a link that you may click on which will log you out of WebCT. Help is a link that you may click on which will bring you to WebCT's Help Files. Below is a brief introduction to some basic tools that your instructor may or may not use in their course(s). (for more information regarding these items click on the link) COMMUNICATION TOOLS allow you to access the courses communications tools (in this particular course) ASSIGNMENTS/QUIZZES/TESTS will bring you to course testing materials, and assignments. The course testing materials and assignments listed below are common evaluation Evaluation and Activity Tools. (for more information regarding these items click on the link) Clicking on "Grades" will allow you to view your grades for this course. Clicking on the "WebCT.com" link will bring you to WebCT.com Here you can search for supplemental information regarding any subject that you are taking. The Discussion area is a public forum that allows the students and instructors to send, read, and search for messages. Discussions are divided into different topics which allows your instructor to create discussion groups around particular subjects. Everyone in your course can access public topics, while private topics are available only to the set of students and teaching assistants that the instructor chooses
POSTED DISCUSSIONS ARE PUBLIC AND ARE VIEWED BY EVERYONE. USE THE WEBCT MAIL IF YOU NEED TO CONTACT YOUR INSTRUCTOR. THE MAIL IN WEBCT IS PRIVATE AND NO ONE BUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR OR YOURSELF MAY VIEW THEM. (UNLESS YOU SEND AN E-MAIL TO SOMEONE ELSE IN THE CLASS, THEN THE INSTRUCTOR WILL BE UNABLE TO VIEW IT) An example of one kind of instructor set-up may be found below.
WebCT has its own e-mail system. Once you click into Mail the Mail screen with come up. Here you will see the following folders: Inbox, Outbox, Drafts. You may only contact other students/instructor(s) within the WebCT course when using this mail tool. Once you click on the Inbox link you will be able to compose your message, attach files (if needed) and send it to some one in the course. In order to e-mail some one you must open a new message, click on the Browse button, select a name from the list, and click on the Select button. From there you must fill in the subject and the message. Click on the Send button. WebCT will automatically save a copy of that e-mail your Outbox. Chat allows students, teaching assistants, and instructors to have real-time conversations with others in the course. There are four general purpose chat rooms and one general forum for the course. There is also a general chat room for all courses, which is a room shared by everybody from all courses on the same server. Conversations in the four general purpose rooms are recorded. Only your instructor can see the records. ENTERING A CHAT ROOMFrom the Chat screen, click the room that you want to enter. The Chat window appears. It contains three main areas:
Whiteboard is a drawing tool that you can use during an online discussion. This tool allows you to type text, draw objects, insert graphics, and make modifications — especially useful for drawing and viewing diagrams in real-time. Your instructor must add Whiteboard to your course before you can use it. Please use the "Help" link located at the top of any WebCT page to get assistance when using this Tool.
VIEWING INDIVIDUAL QUIZ RESULTS
Your instructor can create multiple-choice tests that allow you to test your knowledge. When you answer a question you are told immediately whether the answer is correct or incorrect. When you use Self Test, no grades are assigned or recorded and the instructor cannot see your results. The instructor can add the self test to a page of course content, or to a separate page. For example, the instructor might include a self test on an Assessment page. If the instructor adds a self test to a page of course content, you'll see a Self Test item on the Action Menu. HOW TO DOWNLOAD FILES FROM THE ASSIGNMENT TOOL Downloading a file involves transferring it from the server hosting your WebCT course to your computer.
