Before you Can Log in to WebCT
(Online Students Only)
Go to
the following URL on the Internet:
https://mail.kvcc.me.edu/iisadmpwd/
You will see the following screen

Click OK when you have entered all
of the information. It should say password changed successfully.
If not, try again by clicking the
back button. If successful, continue on and log in to WebCT.
Logging Into WebCT
1. Go to KVCC’s homepage:
http://www.kvcc.me.edu
2. On the right-hand side under Login, click on Blackboard
3. Click on Blackboard OR go directly to
http://blackboard.kvcc.me.edu


5. Type the first letter of your first name and your complete last name for your WebCT ID. (use all lower case)
6. Type the password you use when you log in to your e-mail. (use all lower case)
7. Click on the “OK” button.

My WebCT
- The screen below will appear. This is called your "My WebCT" page.
- This page lists the online courses that you are taking, the Intro to
WebCT course, the link, as well as institutional and personal bookmarks.
- Beneath the course title you will see the instructor's name, your role,
new mail messages, postings, quizzes, assignments, or grades.
- To access your course you may click on one of the above links, which
will bring you directly to that tool, or you may click on the course name
link.
- If you do not have Office 2007, there is a link to download the Office 2007 converter which will allow you to open Office 2007 files.

NAVIGATING IN WEBCT
We do not use the forward and back
buttons on the Standard Toolbar to navigate in WebCT.
At the top left are two tabs: My
WebCT - your course list and Content Manager - a place to put your files for
your WebCT classes.
My Settings allows you to view your profile
(My Profile), change how your courses are viewed (My Tool Options), and to view
your roles in your course(s) (My Roles).
Check
Browser WebCT Campus automatically checks whether your browser is validated
for use with WebCT. A validated browser is one that is compatible with WebCT. A
non-validated browser is one that is not fully tested or has known minor issues
with WebCT. A nonvalidated browser is one that is incompatible with WebCT. The
report should come back with green checkmarks. Anything with a red "X"
has to be fixed before using Blackboard.
Help is a link that you may click on which will bring you to WebCT's Help
Files.
Log Out is a link that you use to log you out of WebCT. Below is a brief introduction to some basic tools that
your instructor may or may not use in their course(s). (for more
information regarding these items click on the link)

Clicking on "Grades" will allow you to view your grades for this course.
Clicking on the "WebCT.com" link will bring you to WebCT.com Here you can search
for supplemental information regarding any subject that you are taking.
DISCUSSIONS
The Discussion area is a public forum that allows the students
and instructors to send, read, and search for messages.
Discussions are divided into different topics which allows your
instructor to create discussion groups around particular subjects. Everyone in
your course can access public topics, while private topics are available only to
the set of students and teaching assistants that the instructor chooses

By default, Discussions contains three public topics.

All: contains all messages from all public topics

Main: the main discussion area

Notes: messages related to a page of
content in a Content Module
POSTED DISCUSSIONS
ARE PUBLIC AND ARE VIEWED BY EVERYONE. USE THE WEBCT MAIL IF YOU NEED TO
CONTACT YOUR INSTRUCTOR. THE MAIL IN WEBCT IS PRIVATE AND NO ONE BUT YOUR
INSTRUCTOR OR YOURSELF MAY VIEW THEM. (UNLESS YOU SEND AN E-MAIL TO SOMEONE ELSE
IN THE CLASS, THEN THE INSTRUCTOR WILL BE UNABLE TO VIEW IT)
An example of one kind of
instructor set-up may be found below.

MAIL
WebCT has its own e-mail system. Once you click into Mail the Mail screen with
come up. Here you will see the following folders: Inbox, Outbox, Drafts. You may
only contact other students/instructor(s) within the WebCT course when using
this mail tool. Once you click on the Inbox link you will be able to compose
your message, attach files (if needed) and send it to some one in the course. In
order to e-mail some one you must open a new message, click on the Browse
button, select a name from the list, and click on the Select button. From
there you must fill in the subject and the message. Click on the Send button.
WebCT will automatically save a copy of that e-mail your Outbox. WebCT mail does
not use traditional e-mail addresses. Use the "Browse for Recipients..."
CHAT
Chat allows students, teaching
assistants, and instructors to have real-time conversations with others in the
course. There are four general purpose chat rooms and one general forum for the
course. There is also a general chat room for all courses, which is a room
shared by everybody from all courses on the same server. Conversations in the
four general purpose rooms are recorded. Only your instructor can see the
records. ENTERING A CHAT ROOM
From the Chat
screen, click the room that you want to enter. The
Chat window appears. It contains three main areas:
- The Output
Interaction Box displays all messages sent and received.
- The Users
Logged In box shows the users presently in the room.
- The Enter your message below text
box where you type your messages.
ACTIVATING AN ENTRY CHIME
-
From the Chat
screen, click any chat room. The Chat
window appears.
- Select Entry
Chime. The chime sounds whenever a new person enters any chat
room. You will hear the chime both in Chat
and when you are working elsewhere in your course.
WHITEBOARD
Whiteboard
is a drawing tool that you can use during an online
discussion. This tool allows you to type text, draw objects, insert
graphics, and make modifications — especially useful for drawing and
viewing diagrams in real-time. Your instructor
must add Whiteboard to your
course before you can use it.
Please use the "Help" link located at the top
of any WebCT page to get assistance when using this Tool.
QUIZZES/TESTS/SELF TESTS
- To take a quiz or a survey, on your
Homepage,
Organizer page, or Course Menu,
click the Quiz tool. The
Quizzes and Surveys screen
appears.
- The name of the quiz or survey is displayed.
Note: If a quiz is not
available, or has already been taken the maximum number
of times, you cannot click its name to access it.
- Availability: the time period in which the
quiz can be accessed.
- Duration: you have this amount of time to
complete the quiz or survey. If there is no information
displayed in this column, you have unlimited time.
- Grade: the grade you received for the quiz or
survey. For example, 90/100 indicates that you received
90 out of 100 points.
- Attempts: This column displays the number of
times you have attempted the quiz or survey, and the
number of attempts remaining. Once a quiz attempt has
been marked and its grade released, the
View scores button
appears.
- Click the name of the quiz or survey that you want to
take. The Quiz Introduction or
Survey Introduction screen
appears.

- Follow the instructions in the instructions on the
Quiz Introduction or
Survey Introduction screen.
- Click "Begin quiz" button

- The image
below is an example of what you will see when accessing a
quiz/test through the Quizzing/Test Tools

- Maximize the testing screen before you start the test.
- Once you read the question and have clicked on the "Save
answer" button you will able to progress through the quiz
until all answers are complete.
- Once you complete a quiz or survey, click
"Finish". A dialog box will
appear that will ask you if you are sure that you want to
proceed. Click OK and then OK again in the "Submit Quiz for
Grading". The quiz or survey is submitted. Depending on the
type of questions asked or the instructors settings the quiz
will be completely graded, partially graded, or not graded
at all.
- Select "View Results" to
view your grade if the instructor allow you to do so.
VIEWING INDIVIDUAL QUIZ RESULTS
- To view the results of your quiz attempt, on your
Homepage, Organizer page, or
Course Menu click the
Quiz tool. The Quizzes and Surveys
screen appears.
- Next to Attempts, click
View scores for the quiz you want to view.
The Scores screen appears.
Note: To return to the Quizzes and Surveys
screen, in the breadcrumbs, click Quiz.

- Under Number, click the number of the
quiz attempt for which you want to see the results. The
Attempts screen appears with the results of
the selected attempt. Note: The
information that is available to you depends upon how your instructor
sets up the quiz results.

SELF TEST
Your instructor can create multiple-choice tests that
allow you to test your knowledge. When you answer a question you are told
immediately whether the answer is correct or incorrect. When you use
Self Test, no grades are assigned or
recorded and the instructor cannot see your results.
The instructor can add the self
test to a page of course content, or to a separate page.
For example, the instructor might include a self test on
an Assessment page. If the instructor adds a self test
to a page of course content, you'll see a
Self Test item on the
Action Menu.
HOW TO TAKE A SELF TEST
- Read the question and click on
the answer that you feel is correct.
- A green checkmark will show up
if you answered the question correctly. A red
“X” will show up if you answered incorrectly. (the
instructor may/may not put an explanation next to
the checkmark or “X”)
- Self Tests may be taken as
often as possible. There is no grade kept for
Self Tests.
ASSIGNMENTS
VIEWING AN ASSIGNMENT
- From
Assignments,
click the hyperlinked name of the assignment you want to view. The
Assignment
screen for that assignment appears.
Note:
if your instructor has created a hyperlink to an assignment file, a new
screen opens displaying the page.
- If your instructor has
included assignment-related files for you to download, an
Assignment-related files table appears listing those files.

- Click on the link for the
assignment that you would like to view.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD FILES FROM THE ASSIGNMENT TOOL
Downloading a file involves transferring it from
the server hosting your WebCT course to your computer.

Click the name of the file you want to
download. A download screen appears in a new window.

Select the file and click
Download.
-
Save the file to your local computer.
- To return to the Assignments
screen, click Close.
- To open the downloaded file, close the
WebCT Browser, if necessary, and open the file on your
computer.
- Complete the assignment
following the directions given making sure to save all changes.
- To return to the
Assignments screen, click
Close.
- To open the downloaded
file, close the
WebCT
Browser, if necessary, and open the file on your computer.
SUBMITTING THE COMPLETE ASSIGNMENT FOR GRADING
- From Assignments, click the
assignment that you want to submit. The
Assignment screen appears.
- To upload the file, under Student files,
click Upload file.
The Upload File for Assignment
screen appears.
- To locate the file, click Browse
to open your computer's file browser.
- Select the file. The Upload File for
Assignment screen reappears, with the path and filename
displayed in the Filename text box.
- Click Upload. The
Assignment screen appears and the
uploaded file is added to the Student files
table.
Notes:
- Filenames can contain
any of the following:
a–z,
A–Z,
0–9,
spaces, _,
&,
( ),
–,
., and ~
Note:
The tilde (~) cannot be used as the first character in the
filename.
- You should also add the
file extension that corresponds to the software you used. For example,
if you completed your assignment in Excel, add
.xls
to the file name if the software program doesn't automatically add it.
- File size should be less than 6 MB in size. If a file is larger than the acceptable size it will not submit.
VIEWING GRADED ASSIGNMENT FILES

Assignments that
are graded display Graded next to
Status.

From Assignments,
next to Status, click
Graded. The
Assignment Results screen appears with graded files under
Graded files.

Click the name of the file you want to
view or download.
HOW TO CLOSE OUT OF WEBCT
Click on the Log out link in the top right hand corner of your screen.
