Is your browser tuned up for WebCT?

When can I log into my WebCT class?

  • One week before class starts you will be able to log into WebCT.  Some instructors do not allow the actual classes to show up until the actual start day.

  • To view a video about logging in, click here.
Is my WebCT userid and password the same as the one for email and logging into the network?
  • Yes, your username and password should be the same as your network username.
  • To view a video about logging in, click here.

Is my WebCT userid and password the same as the one for SAS?

  • No, SAS uses your complete first name and complete last name on separate lines.  The PIN for SAS is something you choose the first time you access the SAS.  Click here to go to SAS.

Why can't I get into WebCT?

  • Make sure you are using the correct username and password.  Your username should be the first letter of your first name, and your complete last name.  Usernames and passwords are all lowercase with no spaces.  If you still can't get in, call Help Desk (1-800-528-5882 Ext 5079 OR 453-5079) to verify your username (as some common names have additional qualifiers added to their username).

  • If you are using anything for an ad blocker you will either have to disable it while using WebCT, or remove it.  There are hundreds of ad blocker programs.  Some of the more common ones are Add/Subtract, Yahoo Companion! / Toolbar, Norton Anti-Virus (with the Firewall protection).  Check in Control Panel for anything that might sound like an ad blocker program.  If you are not sure about a program, you can also check the program out on the Internet.

  • Open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools drop-down menu, select Internet Options.  About one-third of the way down to the right is a Settings button.  Click on it and make sure "Every visit to the page" is selected.  Back at the top click on the Security tab - make sure the Default button is grayed out.  Back at the top click on the Privacy tab - make sure the Default button is grayed out.  Back at the top click on the Advanced tab - at the bottom click on Restore Defaults, click on Okay.  Shut down Internet Explorer, open it back up and try to access WebCT.

Who do I call if I can't get in?
  • Call the help desk at 453-5079 or 1-800-528-5882 ext. 5079

What is the best browser to use?

Why can't I get to some of my course materials (syllabus, files, etc)?

  • Check to see if you are getting a message from an Optimizer program.  Usually a message will come up saying "Optimizer" has blocked this site.  Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs.  Look for anything with "Optimizer" in it or "Internet Optimizer", remove the program.

  • If you have anything for an ad blocker, you either have to disable it or remove it using the procedure outlined above for optimizer programs.  There are a lot of programs used to block pop-ups.  Some of them are: Add/Subtract; Pop-Up Eliminator, Yahoo Companion! / Toolbar, etc.  If you have Norton System Works, it comes with an ad-blocker which can disabled or you can allow certain sites.

  • If you are using Windows XP and have Service Pack 2 installed: Make sure Internet Explorer is open.  Go to the Tools drop-down menu.  Click on Pop-Up Blocker and select Turn off Pop-Up Blocker
I try to submit an assignment, but it won't accept it why?
  • Sometimes WebCT is fussy about the way you name your file.  If there are spaces, characters or extra periods (dots), the program doesn't know how to handle it, so it rejects the file.  Take the spaces and the non-valid characters out and try resending the file.

  • To view a video about submitting an assignment, click here.

Why can't I see my quiz?

  • Look in the task bar, the quiz might be minimized.  Click on the quiz to bring it to the foreground and maximize it (box in the upper right in the middle).

  • Make sure Windows and Internet Explorer have all of the latest service packs and updates. Click here to check for updates.
