Licensure Information
To be licensed as a PTA, you must earn an Associate Degree from a physical
therapist assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in
Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association. In
Maine as in most states, you must pass a computerized national licensure exam to
be eligible for employment. The Maine Board of Examiners in Physical Therapy
sets the score required for passing the exam and evaluates the qualifications of
applicants for licensure. The Board also establishes rules and regulations to
ensure the integrity and competence of licensees.
KVCC graduate licensure exam scores and pass rates are consistently higher than
the national averages. Your KVCC education prepares you well for employment in
your chosen career!
Please note…
The PTA Program does not require criminal background checks or drug screening as
a condition of admission or matriculation. Clinical education facilities or
service learning sites may require criminal background checks and/or drug
screening as a requirement for student participation. The PTA Program will not
assign students with convictions denominated in Title 5, Chapter 341, subsection
5301 of the Maine Revised Statutes Annotated to those sites.
