What is a PTA?
As a physical therapist assistant, or PTA, you work as a member of a team to
rehabilitate people of all ages with musculoskeletal, neurological,
cardiopulmonary, and integumentary conditions. PTAs are skilled in the use of
therapeutic exercise, modalities, and functional training techniques. Patients
with joint replacements, muscle sprains, ligament sprains, amputations, head
injuries, strokes, cerebral palsy, and burns are just as few of those who
benefit from the PTAs services.

The term assistant can be misleading. As a PTA, you will work under the
direction and supervision of a physical therapist (PT).The PT evaluates the
patient and develops a plan of care. The PTA implements the plan of care with
the amount of supervision required by his/her level of experience and applicable
laws. As a PTA, you will be the "front line" practitioner of physical therapy
services and must use good problem solving and judgment skills to effectively
help the patients in your care!
