Students Should Know:
The purpose of the Nursing program at KVCC is to educate graduates who will
function competently as entry level practical or associate degree nurses.
The course of study is a concentrated and challenging one, but also very
rewarding. As a nursing student, you will acquire an immense body of
knowledge and develop many skills. But hopefully, you will also cultivate
values and attitudes which may not be mentioned in textbooks, and which may
make you a great nurse, not just a good nurse! You will learn about
compassion - the ability to genuinely display warm and honest concern about
someone else's well-being. You will learn to adapt - to take a deep breath
and re-prioritize your day when "PLAN A" didn't work. You will learn to take
care of yourself - to choose positive and healthy outlets for stress. You
will learn camaraderie - working together with your co-workers to accomplish
a goal, for there is no "I" in team. And lastly, you will develop an
openness to change, for the day you are no longer willing to learn something
new, is the day you should hang up your stethoscope. There are many good
nurses in the profession, but you can be a great nurse! Aim for excellence!
