Students Should Know:
With 22-years of experience as a clinical registered nurse, my practice began
with a medical-surgical background for four years and then I expanded my
practice to critical care nursing from 1990 and going strong! I continue to work
at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine in the Critical Care Unit working
alongside physicians using on the edge research and the newest technology.
I believe to be a nurse one is able to enter the most private place of a patient
where we are able to guide the person back to health or guide them into the next
phase, death. A person is to be treated holistically and we have that ability as
nurses to be leaders in this profession. With the knowledge and technology
explosion in healthcare, the next generation of nurses need to learn to balance
the human touch with all the technological changes the healthcare world has
embraced.
