I've been sick for 2 weeks and haven't been able to
go to class. Can any of these days be excused?
It is possible to get a medical excuse.
You should see your advisor or stop by the Advising Center in Carter Hall
and talk to one of our Advising Center staff members. We can also
give you contact information on how to reach your advisor.
I can't reach my advisor. What do I do?
All advisors have voice
mail. You can leave him/her a voice message. The Advising
Center has contact information for most advisors, i.e., office location,
hours, e-mail address and phone number. If you can't reach us in
person, or by telephone, send us an e-mail at
advising@kvcc.me.edu and we'll
e-mail this information back to you.
I've heard I need to get a parking sticker for my vehicle. Where do
I get one?
You can pick up a parking sticker in the Frye
Building at the reception desk. If you have more than one vehicle
that you may drive to school, you should get a sticker for each vehicle.
I have financial aid and I want to drop a class.
I'm thinking of just dropping it. Is that a problem?
Dropping a class can have financial aid implications. Sometimes students even have to PAY BACK money!! If you receive financial aid, check
with your financial aid counselor or administrator to determine what is best for
you. You should also consult your academic advisor or someone in the
Advising Center to discuss dropping a class. You will also need to have an
advisor sign your Add/Drop Form before you bring it to the Registrar's Office in
the Frye Building.
You also need to be aware of deadlines in the school
year. Two weeks into the school year
there are no penalties for dropping a class. Again, check with financial aid if you
receive Financial Aid and your academic advisor.
Oh no! I'm failing
a class! Now what?
Talk to the instructor first. How bad is it? What do
you need to do in order to bring your grades up to passing? Have you checked the Learning Center in
King? They can provide study skills and
tutors if needed. Are you studying
enough? We encourage students to study
1-2 hours for each hour in class. Those
students that do that will often have A’s and B’s.
How do I figure
out my G.P.A.?
One
easy way is to go to the following web site and plug in your grades and credits.

I want to double my major while I'm here at
KVCC. Can I?
No.
You have to complete one degree first then
declare the second one. In some cases
you actually have
to apply again to the college, i.e., Nursing, Occupational Therapy
Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant, and
a few of our other competitive programs.
If you want to double major, you should choose your courses wisely
so that you can transfer as many courses from your first major to your second major. See your advisor or someone in the Advising
Center for more information.
I know what I want to do when I grow up! I want to be a nurse or a
line worker. What should I do?
Sounds like you need
career counseling. A nurse is very different than a line worker. You
should make an appointment to
speak to our Career Counselor, Jim
Peacock to explore the process of career decision making. He can give you tests and/or assessments that will help you explore options. You can find Jim in Carter Hall,
Room 222, or call him at 453-5082. You can also reach Jim through
e-mail
at jpeacock@kvcc.me.edu
I need to be full time for financial aid purposes.
I have four courses. Does that mean that I'm full time?
Not necessarily. You must have 12 credit hours to be
considered full time for Federal Financial Aid purposes. Some courses are 1 credit, some are 3 credits,
and some are 4 or more credits. You must
look at your total credit hours. If you
are under a different funding source such as ASPIRE or TAA / TRA, they may have
different guidelines, so you should check directly with whoever funds you.
When in doubt, contact the Financial Aid
Office at 453-5121 or
1-800-528-5882 extension 5121.
