What is the First Year Initiative?

The First Year Initiative (FYI) is a special educational program offered through the TRiO program at Kennebec Valley Community College.  

Through this special offering, the First Year Initiative offers students the opportunity to start their college experience on the right foot!

Students are eligible for the First Year Initiative if she/he

·Qualifies for the TRiO program.  

·Scores below the needed score in math or writing on the placement test.

·Has high school performance which indicates he/she would benefit from our services.
