KVCC
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) awarded for attendance at Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) range from $200 to $400 per school year and are paid to students in two equal payments, half of the total award for each semester attended. If money is available, some students may be awarded an additional grant for the summer semester, and therefore their grants may total more than $400. All matriculated financial aid applicants are considered for FSEOG regardless of enrollment status. This ensures that a proportionate number of part-time certificate, diploma and degree seekers receive FSEOG. In accordance with federal regulations, student eligibility for FSEOG is prioritized as follows:
The student must
1. Be a recipient of a Federal Pell Grant.
2. Have the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Given the small total grant authorized to KVCC each year, and the college's compliance with federal requirements to make awards no smaller than $100 per year, students with greater than zero (00000) EFC's typically do not receive FSEOG's.
3. Apply by March 1 of each year. FSEOG ‘s are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis until funds are exhausted. A second round of awards is completed to reassign unused grant monies to eligible students. (Unused grant monies become available due to “no shows” and withdrawn students who do not qualify for the awards set aside for them.) Preference is given to students meeting the first two criteria who have the highest unmet financial need. Since KVCC generally has more applicants meeting criteria #1 and #2 above than it has FSEOG monies to award, this third criterion is necessary to determine who will receive awards.
The first round of FSEOG awards is usually made between June 1st and July 1st of each year. By this time, the Financial Aid Office has received and processed the majority of financial aid applications for the school year. The second round of awards is made approximately January 1st of each year. Additional rounds of awards are made on an as-needed basis if funds become available due to student withdrawals of transfer of Federal Work Study funds to the FSEOG account.
