Application Process

Students should apply by March 1 for best offers and no later than April 30 to meet the deadline for the Maine scholarship program. Financial aid is still available for students applying later than these dates, but the total awards available may be substantially reduced.

All students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for awards from any of the financial aid programs offered by KVCC. Applicants may complete and mail a paper application or they may file electronically using the web site: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Additionally, all students must submit copies of the federal IRS 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ they and their spouses filed for the calendar year just completed. Parents' federal IRS forms also must be submitted for dependent students. More complete information regarding the financial aid process is available by contacting the Financial Aid Office (1-800-528-5882, ext. 5121). or accessing "Financial Aid at the College's web site at www.kvcc.me.edu

Use Federal School Code: 009826

Everyone can use FAFSA on the web.  If you applied for aid last year, you can access your partially completed Renewal Application on the Web using your Personal Identification Number (PIN) which will be mailed to you between November 15 and December 31 by the Federal Processing Center.  Regardless of which version you use, be sure to sign your signature page and mail it to the Federal Processing Center.

If you choose to sign your FAFSA electronically and do not have an assigned PIN, you may apply at the federal website www.pin.ed.gov.  You will receive your PIN in 7-10 days.  Keep this PIN in a safe place for future use.

Your Student Aid Report (SAR) will arrive in the mail about a week after your signature page is received.  The KVCC Financial Aid Office will receive a copy of your SAR electronically when you use Federal School Code 009826.

Additionally, all students must submit to the KVCC Finacial Aid Office:

1. Signed copies of the Federal IRS 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ's tax forms (with W-2's) filed by the student and/or spouse, and parents (if applying as dependent students); and

2. Verification of untaxed and non taxable income.

More complete information regarding the financial aid process is available by contacting the Financial Aid Office (1-800-528-5882, ext. 5121).

TIPS for Completing your Financial Aid Application

- Provide estimated income figures if necessary (you do not have to wait until tax forms are filed with the IRS).

- Enter your name and social security (SS) number exactly as they appear on your SS card. If you had a name change, correct it with the SS Office.

- Dependent students: if your parents are divorced or widowed and have remarried, include your step-parent’s information.

- Independent students who are married at the time of application MUST include spouse income regardless of marriage date.

- Use worksheet A to total your untaxed income, and keep a copy of this worksheet.

- If you or your family have unusual circumstances (i.e. loss of employment, major medical expenses), notify the KVCC Financial Aid Office.

- Verification documents should be submitted directly to the Financial Aid Office at KVCC (i.e.; IRS Forms), not to the FAFSA Processing Center.
