Tech Prep Consortium
Tech Prep is a progressive sequence
of study beginning in high school and continuing through at least two years of
post-secondary education. This program may parallel, or be integrated with, the
college prep
course of study and provides students with a focused career path. It prepares
students for high-skill occupations and encourages continuation of study leading
to an associate degree in a two-year college or a
baccalaureate degree in a four-year program.
The Tech Prep program integrates academic and occupational subjects, placing
emphasis on articulation between secondary to post-secondary education.
Articulation agreements between high schools
and two-year colleges are built around a competency-based, technical curriculum,
designed jointly by business/labor and secondary/post-secondary schools.
The agreements allow students to earn free college credit, while in high school,
that can be applied toward a program of study here at KVCC. Advanced placement
credit is awarded to students who earn a
B (85) or better, and meet admission standards for college level courses. The
College recognizes completions of a three-year sequence of tech prep applied
mathematics requirements for one year of algebra.
The Kennebec Valley Community College Tech Prep Consortium includes thirty-two
(32) high schools and six (6) area applied technology centers. Its purpose is to
provide support to member schools in the development of comprehensive Tech Prep
programs built around rigorous applied academics which can be articulated with
KVCC's programs through formal articulation agreements.
