Academic Affairs

KVCC recognizes and appreciates the fact that a student may gain college-level learning outside of the traditional academic setting.  Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) encompasses a process by which students can earn college credit for knowledge and skills gained from workplace training, military training and service, professional certifications, examinations, civic activities and volunteer service. Pathways to earn credit for PLA include: credential review, military transcript review, testing options and portfolio assessment.

To seek credit for prior learning, a student must be formally admitted into a degree program at KVCC.  Additionally, the student must meet the College’s residency requirement to be awarded a degree at KVCC (a minimum of 25% of program course requirements). Students should request prior learning credit during the admissions process or early in the your academic career for consideration in degree planning.
