KVCC tuition waiver program offers great opportunity to area high school students

Fairfield, ME – Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is encouraging juniors and seniors at area high schools to take advantage of a tuition-waiver program that can allow them to earn college credits while still in high school at very affordable rates.

Students with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average(GPA) at the B level or above and permission from their parent/guardian and guidance counselor are welcome to enroll in up to 6 credits of transferable general education courses at KVCC in each fall and spring semester.

Students are responsible for fees ($60.60 for each 3 credit course) and textbook costs. Tuition is waived. Students usually earn high school credit for these courses as well.

“Not only do high school students earn transferable college credits that satisfy high school requirements at the same time, but they also get a good feel for what college will be like,” said Mark Harmon, Assistant Academic Dean at KVCC.

Seats are limited so interested students are encouraged to apply early. Some online courses are also available. For more information or an enrollment form, please contact Mark Harmon at 453-5127 or

This program is also open to home-schooled students.

Kennebec Valley Community College is one of seven community colleges in Maine. KVCC prepares full-time and part-time students to enter the job market, to transfer to colleges and universities, and to achieve their professional and personal goals. Programs and services support the economic growth of the community in response to changing needs.

In 2011 and again in 2012, KVCC was named one of the top community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute, placing in the top 10 percent of two-year colleges based on student success rates.
