KVCC now accepting students for two-year Sustainable Agriculture degree program

Hinckley, ME – Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is now accepting students into a newly-created two-year Associate of Applied Science degree program in sustainable agriculture.

Classes for the new program begin at KVCC on August 26. The program will be the first of its kind in Maine, and the first academic program to be based at the College’s new Alfond campus.

The program will provide students with both the technical and small business skills needed to manage or develop a small farm or agricultural business.

Students will expand their knowledge and hone their skills in sustainable farm principles and practices by participating in a summer internship at the College’s farm or a local agricultural business.

The two-year curriculum includes classes in soil, plant and animal science, crop production, integrated pest management, farm infrastructure, and sustainable livestock management. Business courses include agricultural marketing, accounting, and small business.

The sustainable agriculture program will be followed by other complementary and innovative degree and certificate programs with a sustainable farm-to-table focus.
