Fairfield, ME – Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Midstate Berkshire to offer free machinist and machine operator training to qualified students beginning May 19.

For those who successfully complete the training, the jobs offer a starting wage of between $11.38 and $16.18 per hour depending on position, and an excellent benefit package.

KVCC and Midstate Berkshire expect to train 12students through the partnership.

Midstate Berkshire, established in 2010, was originally founded as two separate, nationally recognized manufacturing facilities: Berkshire Industries and Midstate Machine. Berkshire Industries had successfully served the aerospace, defense, and power generation industries since 1956. Midstate Machine opened its doors in Maine in 1968 and has provided solutions to numerous industries, including gas & oil, power generation, maritime, and defense. The companies’ contract machining, fabrication, and assembly skills helped establish each business's reputation for quality and precision, earning them customers such as GE, Lockheed Martin, and Honeywell.

Their successes caught the attention of Precision Partners, an advanced manufacturing and engineering services company, who acquired Berkshire Industries and Midstate Machine as subsidiaries in 2006 and 1999, respectively. Today, Precision Partners has combined the resources and experience of the two business units into a single entity, providing complete end-to-end manufacturing solutions that improve supply chain logistics and capital costs associated with complex, precision component processing.

KVCC is one of seven community colleges in Maine which operate under the authority of the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees. KVCC is a public, nonprofit, post-secondary institution supported in part by state legislative appropriations and federal funds.

The College offers more than 35 programs of study ranging from two-year associate degrees to certificates, as well as a comprehensive schedule of continuing education courses and business and industry outreach programs.
