KVCC hosts “An Evening of Jazz” scholarship event Friday, Feb. 3

Fairfield, ME – Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) will host its 5th annual fund-raising gala, “An Evening of Jazz,” Friday, Feb. 3 to raise money for student scholarships.

The semi-formal event will be held from 6-10 p.m. in the Carter Hall Multi-Purpose Room at the Fairfield campus, located at 92 Western Avenue. It will include silent and live auctions, dinner, and music from the KVCC Faculty Jazz Band.

“The Jazz Gala has become a vital part of our efforts to support the needs of our students, and the generosity shown by those who attend this special event truly makes a difference to students.” Barbara W. Woodlee, President of KVCC, said. “Scholarships are critically important to those working to reach their educational goals, and in dificult economic times the need is great.”

Organized by the KVCC Foundation Board of Trustees, the gala is part of the annual campaign to raise funds for the needs of students and programs at the College.

Central Maine Power Company will again be the “Presenting Sponsor” for the event, continuing its long tradition of partnering with KVCC on programs that benefit the community and students.

Scholarships make a significant difference in the ability of students to successfully complete their programs, and the Foundation Trustees and staff at KVCC work hard to raise funds from donors who recognize the importance of KVCC graduates to the community.

Supporting KVCC students is a great investment in the state and the economy. Ninety-nine percent of KVCC students are Maine residents and 96 percent of the members of the Class of 2010 were employed and/or continuing their education within six months of graduation. Most KVCC graduates find jobs in Central Maine and contribute greatly to the local workforce, thereby enhancing the regional economy.

The gala’s success has grown over the years, with last year’s event attracting more than 200 donors, business partners, Foundation Board members, KVCC staff, students, alumni, and supporters from the community.
