KVCC 2014 Commencement


FAIRFIELD, ME – Approximately 400 students graduated from Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) May 17 during the College’s 44th Commencement Exercises at the Augusta Civic Center.

Maine Senator Susan M. Collins was keynote speaker for the event, which was attended by hundreds of family, friends, and fellow students.

First elected in 1996, Senator Collins is now serving her third term in the United States Senate. Known for her efforts to facilitate bipartisan compromise, Senator Collins is a nationally-respected leader in promoting U.S. interests.

Students graduated from programs including: Advanced Emergency Care, Applied Electronics and Computer Technology, Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Applications Technology, Computer Information Systems, Education, Electrical Lineworker Technology, Electrical Technology, Energy Services and Technology, General Science, Health Information Technology, Liberal Studies, Massage Therapy, Medical Assisting, Mental Health, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Phlebotomy, Physical Therapist Assistant, Precision Machining Technology, Pulp and Paper Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and Sonography.

Other speakers for the event included: KVCC Student of the Year Timothy McDonald; KVCC President Dr. Richard Hopper; Trustee Shawn H. Moody of the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees; and Kathy Corey, Chair of the KVCC Foundation.

Awards presented at the event included:

▪ Bernard A. King Award - Brett Giguere, Energy Services and Technology program.

▪ Fred Whitney Award - Charles Feyler, Computer Applications Technology Program.

▪ Aaron Levine Outstanding Student Award - Cory Willey, Electrical Lineworker Technology Program.

▪ Distinguished Alumni Award - Heather Nelson.
